Illustrator Raschka to speak at Joslyn
Chris Raschka, an award-winning illustrator of children's books, will give a free presentation at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Joslyn Art Museum, 2200 Dodge St.
Raschka won the 2012 Caldecott Medal for his work on "A Ball for Daisy." His session is free and open to the public.
Old Papillion Days photos requested
The Papillion Community Foundation is hosting a photo contest as part of its 65th annual Papillion Days celebration and asks community members to submit photos from any previous Papillion Days. Photos will be accepted through April 15 and winners will be announced May 17.
The foundation asks that this information be included with submissions: Name of submitter, approximate date photo was taken, names of those in photos (if possible) and any recollections of the Papillion Days events in the photos.
Submit photos by mail to the Papillion Community Foundation, P.O. Box 461089, Papillion, NE 68046, or digitally to communityfoundation@papillion.org.
Photo submission and release forms are available at the foundation's website, papillionfoundation.org. Photos chosen will be displayed at foundation offices and at Papillion Days events.
'The Cat in the Hat' staged free for youths
Peru (Neb.) State College will celebrate the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss by hosting children Thursday and Friday for theatrical presentations of "The Cat in the Hat."
Performances, which are free and open to the public, will begin at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days in the College Theatre. The Peru Student Education Association is the sponsor.
More than 1,200 Head Start and pre-kindergarten through fourth-grade students from 15 area schools are expected to attend the event, which is held in conjunction with Read Across America Week. Students will be asked to take a "Readers' Oath" and participate in 10 interactive stations that promote a love of reading.
