DES MOINES — A Polk County jury has convicted a North Carolina man of hitting and seriously injuring a Des Moines police officer with his pickup outside the Iowa State Fair last summer.
The jury Tuesday found Keith Terry guilty of serious injury by vehicle and driving while intoxicated. Terry, of Belews Creek, N.C., was accused of hitting Officer Phoukham Tran last August.
Tran was helping people cross the street near the fair when he was hit by a pickup truck and thrown about 50 feet. Police said Terry had a blood-alcohol content of three times the legal limit when he hit the officer.
Tran spent months recovering from severe head and internal injuries. He returned home in January. — AP
