WORLD-HERALD NEWS SERVICE

Sheriff Jeff Danker has announced that he will be seeking his sixth term as Pottawattamie County sheriff.

Danker joined the sheriff's office as a corrections specialist in the jail in 1977. Since then he has held the positions of court bailiff, road patrol deputy, narcotics investigator, criminal investigator and criminal investigations sergeant. He was elected sheriff in 1992.

Danker said one of the highlights of his 20 years as sheriff was the opportunity to oversee the planning and construction of the new Pottawattamie County Jail and Sheriff's Office.

Other highlights, he said, include the office assuming command of the 911 Communications Center and overseeing implementation of the countywide 800-megahertz public safety communications project.

Danker served as incident commander for the county during the flood of 2011.

A Treynor, Iowa, native, he and his wife, Gladys, have two daughters, Mandy and Rachael.
