Omaha police said a 28-year-old woman “yelled frantically” when she saw officers had come to rescue her from an abduction and rape at a west Omaha hotel.
Seven people told police they saw a man about six feet tall drag the Omaha woman pleading for help into a room at the StudioPLUS extended stay hotel just north of 90th Street and West Dodge Road.
One witness said he could hear the woman screaming “Stop!” and “Help!”
Officers said they, too, could hear the woman’s cries of distress when they arrived about 11 p.m. on July 18 in response to a call about the disturbance.
When a hotel employee opened the room door, officers witnessed the sexual assault, according to a police report.
Officers said the woman “yelled frantically when she saw responding officers.”
Police arrested Andra C. Gadson, 39, on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault and false imprisonment. Gadson was charged with first-degree forcible sexual assault and ordered held on $1 million bail. He must pay $100,000 — or 10 percent — to be released.
A preliminary court hearing was scheduled for next month.
According to police, Gadson was not previously known to the woman he is accused of assaulting.
The hotel employee who assisted police said Gadson and the woman were separately registered as guests at the hotel.
Gadson's previous known address was in Savannah, Ga., but court documents listed him as a transient.
