YORK — The Hastings Tigers took a 4-2 lead following the singles matches on Tuesday and the Dukes could not make up the difference in doubles play and dropped a 6-3 decision on their home courts.
York's wins in singles action came from No. 4 Taylor Andrews who defeated Ryan Kern 8-6, and in No. 5 singles where Hayden Sandall got by his Hastings opponent, Jonah Schutzl, by the final of 8-5.
York's Jared Miller at No. 2 lost a tough 9-7 battle to Tiger Josh Hinrichs, while Creighton Loreman was defeated by Hastings' No.1 singles player Matt Karnes.
At No. 3, Tyler Odom lost to Sam Johnson 8-5 and at No. 6 Logan Cobb was an 8-3 victim of Jess Andresen.
“Today was very disappointing -- they were solid, but I think this is one that we should have won. We ended up with a varsity dual record of 4-4,” said York head coach Dan Malleck following the matches. “The JVs picked up another nice win (12-10) and are sitting at 4-2 on the year.”
In doubles action, York's only win came from the No. 3 tandem of Loreman and Miller who defeated Karnes and Hinrichs 8-5. In No. 1 play Odom and Andrews lost to Andresen and Schutzl, while at No. 2 Cobb and Sandall fell to the Hastings pair of Johnson and Kern 8-4.
The Dukes will be in action Friday at the Elkhorn South Invite at the Koch Tennis Center.
