Indie pop duo Beach House is very serious about their music.
Band members Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally go through a long, deliberate process of picking melodies, themes and feelings for the band's dreamy, otherworldly pop songs.
When speaking about the songs, Legrand used phrases including the “destiny of the song” and “intensity of words.” The band finds deep meaning in the process of making music and especially performing it, which they'll do Monday at Slowdown.
Sometimes, things fall into place naturally. Take, for example, the lyrics and especially the title of “Lazuli” off the band's new album, “Bloom.”
“With time, it became so apparent that these amazing words that I fell in love with and believed in and the feeling we were getting emerged,” Legrand told The World-Herald. “There is no doubt when you find a word that absolutely means the song. When you hear the song, it's like it's showing you the word.”
