COLUMBUS – After shooting a 99 at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus on Monday at the Class C State Golf Tournament, Heartland’s Paige Mestl followed that up on Tuesday with a 96.
Her score of 195 for the two days earned her an 18th place finish at the event.
Mestl was the only other area golfer to make the State Tournament Field, other than York whose team competed at the Class B State Tournament in Lincoln at Mahoney Golf Course.
On Tuesday after a bogey and two double bogeys to start her day Mestl birdied the par three 147 yard fourth hole at Quail Run.
She threw down pars at No. 8 and No. 11 and finished with seven holes just one over par.
She improved her stroke total by seven shots on the par fours on Tuesday, but was three higher on the par three’s and one higher on the par fives.
The individual championship went to McKenna Kime of GICC who tied Maaika Mestl of Ogallala at +22 after the 36-hole event. Kime won the sate championship on the first play-off hole.
The GICC Crusaders won the team title with a 746, Ogallala was second with a 751 and third went to Norfolk Catholic with a 784.
