Tommy Colina's Kitchen new location
West Omaha fans of eggs benedict and burgers, take note: Tommy Colina's Kitchen is coming your way.
Chef Jon Dye said the restaurant's second location, on the corner of 180th and Pacific Streets, should be open by the third week in November.
“It will be the same menu and the same concept,” he said.
Tommy Colina's serves brunch, lunch and dinner. Its original location is near 38th and Farnam Streets.
Molly vs. the pig wings
Omaha food challenge upstart Molly Schuyler struck again Wednesday night, conquering the massive “pig wings” challenge at Starsky's in downtown Omaha in a mere 38 minutes, tying the record for the fastest time with her main competition in local eating contests, professional eater Randy Santel of Overland Park, Kan.
It's the fourth challenge she's won since August.
“It was brutal,” she said. “I almost couldn't push through. I do not ever want to do this challenge again, so help me God.”
The Pig Wings Challenge consists of five pounds of pig wings, which are like chicken wings made from pork, and three pounds of corn nuggets, which are filled with a creamed-corn like substance. The challenge previously has been featured on an episode of the Travel Channel's “Man vs. Food Nation.”
Schuyler was the first woman to conquer this challenge, along with a number of other local food challenges.
In August, Schuyler became the first woman to take down the Stellanator, the well-known food challenge at Stella's Bar and Grill, in a mere 15 minutes. A few weeks later, she took down Sinful Burger's “Goliath” Challenge: five pounds of food that includes a giant burger and a pound of fries.
The 32-year-old Schuyler took Santel's record in the Goliath Challenge, finishing in 17 minutes and three seconds. Santel still holds the record for the fastest Stellanator, 7 minutes, 26 seconds.
Schuyler also took down the five-pound Big Axe Calzone at Old River Pizzza Company in Council Bluffs. She finished in 11 minutes and 23 seconds, stealing the record from Santel.
Enchilada contest winner
The winner of last weekend's enchilada-themed Ted E. Bear Hollow Comfort Food Classic was Nick Katis of Julio's Restaurant. His enchilada includes smoked brisket rolled in a flour tortilla topped with cheese and a green chile cream sauce. Julio's restaurants in Omaha will be serving the winning dish through the end of October, and for every enchilada sold, they will donate a portion of the proceeds to Ted E. Bear Hollow. More than 600 people attended the event, an annual fundraiser for the nonprofit organization that provides support for grieving children and teenagers. Twisted Fork Bistro and Lucky Bucket team up for fall beer dinner
The Old Market's Twisted Fork Bistro is teaming with Lucky Bucket Brewery for a fall beer dinner.
The five-course meal will pair chicken fried bacon with white peppercorn gravy alongside Lucky Bucket Lager; pumpkin bisque with Lucky Bucket Wheat; pan-roasted applewood bacon-wrapped pork loin finished with apple au jus alongside Lucky Bucket IPA; pan-seared peppered strip steak with mushroom ragout, au gratin potatoes and green beans with Lucky Bucket Oktoberfest; and a s'mores brownie with a graham cracker crust and Certified Evil whipped cream served with Lucky Bucket's Certified Evil beer.

Twisted Cork expands
The Twisted Cork Bistro has expanded into the bay next door.
Owner Darrell Auld said the restaurant leased the bay to the north and turned it into a tavern. They also expanded their patio, built a cocktail bar, added a large community table and have a new menu that includes happy-hour specials.
The restaurant is at 10730 Pacific St.
Mangia Italiana donating 20 percent of sales to charity

Itailan Gardens is having a wine tasting Oct. 18.
The restaurant is working with Rob Mathews at Quail Distributing on the wines, which will be paired with small plates such as coquilles st. jacques; salad nicoise; cherry smoked chicken breast; cannelloni served on linguini marinara; roast pork loin with eggplant au gratin; tournedos toscanos, which is beef tenderloin prepared sous vide with wild boar pate and white beans; and a dessert of Boston brown bread pudding.
