MCCOOL JUNCTION – The Mustangs of McCool manhandled the Franklin Flyers on Friday night, 65-18.
After a backwards start of losses and penalties the host Mustangs straightened up, flew right and grounded Franklin's hopes.
The scoreboard lit up after a run by Chance Chrisman to the Flyer 3. Jac Bailey covered the final 2 yards at 4:47 of the first period and the score was 6-0 after a failed PAT pass.
Franklin answered at :37 of the first with a 10-yard TD run of their to forge a 6-all tie.
The deadlock didn't last long when Chrisman scampered 37 yards to paydirt. The time clock showed all zeroes when the sophomore raced into the end zone. Bailey ran in the PAT on a keeper and it was 14-6 Mustangs.
The Mustangs covered a fumble at the Franklin 14 and Bailey promptly ran to the Flyer 4, then took it in from the 2 himself at 10:16 of the second to make it 22-6.
The PAT pass came on a soft lob pass from Clay Real to Kirk Doht who was wide open behind the goal line.
A crunching hit by Bailey jarred the ball loose from a Franklin runner and Terry Salyer took advantage by scooping up the ball and racing to the Flyer 8.
Chrisman banged his way to the 1 and Bailey plunged in from there.
A failed PAT kick left the score 28-8.
A 1-run TD by the Flyers closed the gap to 28-12 when Jared Morner stuffed Franklin's PAT run attempt.
Only six more points would come Franklin's way from there to the final gun. Not so for the Mustangs who scuffed the Flyers up for another 37 points.
