GORDON — The Mitchell volleyball team improved to 22-7 and won its ninth straight match of the season after taking down Gordon-Rushville 2-0 (25-17, 25-10) and Bridgeport 2-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-21) in a triangular on Tuesday night at Gordon.
“That’s a pretty darn good way to end the regular season,” Mitchell coach Michelle Peters said. “I’m very proud of these kids. They work hard every day, their team chemistry keeps getting stronger, and they’re just a good group of kids.”
The Tigers were paced by junior Taylor Peters, who finished with 20 kills and 27 digs; and Chalsey Grentz, who collected 38 set assists and 34 digs. Also contributing for the Tigers was Brianne Hessler with four ace serves and nine digs; Arissa Gabel with 41 digs and 14 points; Morgan Michael with six ace blocks and 11 points; Michaela Karpen with seven kills and five ace blocks; Felina Blanco with 11 points and 22 digs; McKenna Zulkoski with five digs; and Aspen Reifschneider with six kills and five digs.
After falling to Mitchell, Bridgeport bounced back with a two-set sweep over Gordon-Rushville.
Bridgeport’s Jamie Schneider finished the triangular with 14 kills, eight digs and two blocks; Adreanna Ernest had 10 kills, eight ace serves and 23 digs; Jessica Kildow had six kills and 19 digs; Brooke Schneider had 37 digs; Aimee Hass finished with eight kills; and Sydney Faessler had 34 set assists and 12 digs.
