A series of free events open to the public will mark Opera Omaha Week, starting Saturday.
Veteran opera director Jim de Blasis will give a preview talk Saturday before a live broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera’s “Otello” at Film Streams, 14th and Mike Fahey Streets. The 11 a.m. talk is free, but you must purchase a ticket to see “Otello.” Information: 402-933-0259.
Nationally known baritone Peter Volpe, who has played more than 80 roles in six languages, will appear at a Tuesday lunch at Opera Omaha, 1850 Farnam St. Opera Omaha is providing food and drink. Please email a reservation to firstname.lastname@example.org
Volpe will also appear for tricks and treats Wednesday evening at Opera Omaha from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Enter a costume contest for free tickets to “Bluebeard’s Castle.” During the event Volpe will sing some of opera’s most haunting music.
A Nov. 3 master class at Opera Omaha, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., will find Volpe demonstrating tips and techniques to aspiring vocal artists. Space is limited, so reserve a spot by emailing email@example.com
