Five more western Iowa volleyball teams hope to play their way into next week's state tournament with regional final victories on Wednesday.
One WI qualifier is assured in Class 1-A, as No. 6 Stanton (33-2) meets unrated Ar-We-Va (24-10) in the Region 2 final at Atlantic. Stanton is seeking its third straight state appearance, while Ar-We-Va's lone appearances came in 1994 and 2003.
Teams in The World-Herald's coverage area have a chance to fill three of the eight entries in the Class 2-A state field.
In the Region 2 final at Denison, No. 5 Council Bluffs St. Albert (27-10) faces No. 9 Hinton (28-4). St. Albert made its initial state appearance last year, while Hinton's lone appearance came in 2005.
At Greenfield, No. 7 Treynor (30-6) and Des Moines Christian (27-6) vie for the Region 3 crown. Treynor has made 13 state trips, all in the last 19 years, but has been absent the last two seasons. Des Moines Christian has never reached state.
In the Region 4 final at Ogden, No. 3 Carroll Kuemper (31-5) will play No. 8 Woodward-Granger (30-3) for a trip to Cedar Rapids. Kuemper is seeking its sixth state trip and third in five years. Woodward-Granger made its state debut last year, in Class 1-A.
All regional finals start at 7 p.m. with the state tournament beginning a four-day stretch at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena on Nov. 7.
