BEATRICE – Following Thursday night’s dominating performance in the finals of the Class D1-1 District Volleyball championship at Beatrice High School, the Timberwolves once again find themselves in familiar territory, so to speak.
Exeter-Milligan raised their record to 27-4 with an impressive 3-0 win over the 18-15 Pawnee City Indians by the scores of 25-7, 25-8 and 25-17.
From 2009-2011 the Timberwolves went into the Class D1 State Tournaments as one of the favorites, this season, their fourth consecutive trip to the State Tournament, all indications are they will be the No. 6 seed against Howells-Dodge Bobcats who will be the No. 3 seed with a record of 28-3.
On Thursday night the Timberwolves followed up an impressive two night stay at the sub-district tournament in Hebron at Thayer Central where they knocked off both Heartland and BDS on consecutive nights.
With the Indians the only team standing in front of them the Exeter-Milligan girls left no doubt who was the better team.
The Exeter-Milligan front line pounded out 48 kills in just three sets and Jennifer Pribyl and Jackie Luzum led the way with 13 and 12 kills respectively.
In setting the T-Wolves were led by senior Taylor Erdkamp with 30 set assists, and Erica Yound’s serving produced six of the Timberwolves nine aces.
On defense in the digs department, Megan Zwickl led the team with 12, Yound added nine, and two players, Madison Horne and Erdkamp had eight each.
If the Exeter-Milligan girls do end up with the No. 6 seed in the Class D1 State Tournament field, they would play at GICC High School on Thursday, November 8 at 9 a.m.
Official seeding and match ups can be found on the NSAA Website, www.nsaahome.org, this weekend.
