EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Creighton Bluejays earned their third consecutive Missouri Valley Conference regular-season soccer title Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Evansville.
The No. 16 Jays found themselves in a tie until the 44th minute. Senior Brent Kallman then scored the game winner — his first score of the season. He was assisted on the play by sophomore Jose Ribas. It was Ribas’ fifth assist of the season.
Kallman now has two goals in his Creighton career. His first goal also was a game-winner.
The Jays scored the first goal of the game when freshman Timo Pitter notched his team-leading eighth of the season in the eighth minute. Pitter has scored five goals in the past five matches.
Evansville tied it 1-1 when Mark Gonzalez scored in the 21st minute. It was the first conference goal scored on the Jays this season and first in 1,293 minutes.
The conference title was Creighton’s 12th and first with an unbeaten league record since 2008.
Freshman goalkeeper Jeff Gal improved to 9-0 with the win.
