A 55-year-old Omaha man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in a crash last spring that killed an 8-year-old girl.
Rodney D. Watkins entered the plea Tuesday in Douglas County Court.
Watkins was the driver of a pickup truck that slammed into the back of a Honda Odyssey minivan at 72nd and Main Streets in Ralston.
Julia Brown of Papillion died in the May 21 collision.
Susan M. Brown, mother of Julia, and daughters Madeline and Emily were injured. Watkins also was treated at a hospital.
Police allege that Watkins had been speeding and driving erratically.
Before the pickup hit Brown's vehicle, it struck another minivan, a white Dodge Caravan, about a block to the south. The driver of that vehicle was not hurt.
Investigators said they found no indication that Watkins had been braking the pickup before hitting Brown's northbound minivan, which was stopped at a red light on 72nd Street. — Kevin Cole
