An Omaha man was arrested on suspicion of robbing two midtown businesses last week, police said Monday.
Detectives were looking into whether Deon A. Stewart, 21, is also connected to other recent Omaha robberies. As of Monday morning, however, he had only been booked on suspicion of robbing Midtown Gas, 1349 Park Ave., and Check into Cash, 7910 Dodge Street. Both robberies occurred last week, and in each case witnesses reported that the suspect showed a weapon before demanding money.
Police were still investigating ten additional robberies at convenience stores over the weekend.
Three Sunday night robberies happened over about 2½ hours at the following midtown stores:
» 6:40 p.m., Phillips 66, 3707 Center St.
» 7:14 p.m., Valero gas station, 5188 Leavenworth St.
» 9:06 p.m., Tobacco & Phones 4 Less, 7204 Blondo St.
Police didn't say whether the three were connected, but said detectives were looking into whether seven robberies on Saturday night and Sunday morning were linked.
In several of those incidents, the suspect or suspects either showed a weapon or indicated having a weapon and took cigarettes, alcohol and cash.
They occurred at:
» 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Four Aces Convenience Store, 6602 N. 30th St.
» 6:19 p.m. Saturday, Midtown Gas & Grocery, 1222 S. 24th St.
» 7 p.m. Saturday, Valero gas station, 2411 N. 30th St.
» 9:05 p.m. Saturday, Howell's BP, 5203 Northwest Radial

» 3:32 a.m. Sunday, QuikTrip, 4720 Hamilton St.
» 3:37 a.m. Sunday, Bucky's, 107 S. 40th St.
Witnesses in all the cases described the robber as a man in his 20s or 30s. In the robbery at Howell's, witnesses said two men were involved.
