An Omaha man pleaded no contest Tuesday to eight charges stemming from the sexual assaults and the taking of pornographic pictures of boys who had worked for his lawn care company.
Daniel Mangiameli, 62, entered the plea – and Douglas County District Judge Thomas Otepka deemed him guilty. He will be sentenced in January. He faces at least 15 years to life in prison.
Prosecutor Brenda Beadle has said that Mangiameli groomed several boys – giving them alcohol, cigarettes and marijuana in return for sexual favors.
Mangiameli admitted in an earlier interview to having “sensual relationships” with at least 20 boys over the past 30 years, mostly boys who worked for him.
Mangiameli had said he planned to plead no contest to the charges, though he said he doesn't think he did anything wrong.
“I'm guilty, OK, of our society's rules here,” he said in an earlier jailhouse interview.
He said he was born with feelings toward teenage boys, and he started acting on them at about age 35. He often bought the boys food, took them on outings or gave them money.
Two boys who did yardwork for Mangiameli told police that he used a vibrating sex toy on them and himself.
Prosecutors also said Mangiameli took nude photos of the two, which he admitted in the interview.
One of the boys also told police that Mangiameli performed oral sex on him.
Mangiameli was found March 14 in a Texas yacht club, planning to flee to Mexico.
