More than 80 people have applied to become the next leader of the Omaha Public Schools.
The deadline to apply for the position was Friday.
The school board plans to hear an update on the search and get a list of eight to 12 candidates Monday from Gary Solomon, CEO of Proact Search.
“They'll be happy with the candidates they see,” Solomon said. “It's a diverse and talented slate of folks.”
The board has contracted with Proact to help it find the next permanent OPS superintendent. Former Ralston Superintendent Virginia Moon is leading OPS in the interim. John Mackiel retired from OPS this past summer after 40 years, the last 15 as its leader.
The board plans to choose its finalists the week of Dec. 3 and interview them the following week.
A new superintendent is expected to be named by Dec. 17.
