Alexis Altmaier, sophomore, Lincoln East: Altmaier won the 200 individual medley last season in 2:09.19 and finished second to Lincoln Southwest's Aimee Fischer in the 500 freestyle in 5:09.10. Last month, Altmaier finished fourth in the Class A state cross country championships, leading the Spartans to the team champoinship by five points over Lincoln Pius X.
Brianna McCullough, sophomore, Papillion-La Vista/Papio South: McCullough is the highest returning finisher in both the 100 and 200 freestyle races. She was the silver medalist in the 200 free as a freshman in 1:55.00, and she won the bronze medal in the 100 free in 53.84.
Laura Miksch, junior, Columbus: Miksch is the defending state champion in the 50 freestyle and was the only swimmer in the state to post a time under 24 seconds (23.86). She also is the top returning finisher in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.48 after posting a 1:06.96 in the prelims.
Erin Oeltjen, senior, Millard West: Oeltjen is the two-time defending state champion in the 100 backstroke. She won the 2011 title in 57.19 and the '12 gold medal in 58.11 after posting a 57.77 in the prelims. Oeltjen finished second in the 200 IM in 2:09.55 after passing on a chance to defend her '11 state title in the 100 butterfly, an event won by freshman teammate Tara Goss.
Garrett Cadotte, junior, Ralston/Omaha Gross: Cadotte broke out at the 2012 state meet when he won the 100 butterfly in 50.61, a time just 0.01 seconds off The World-Herald's all-time Top 10 list. He also is the top returning finisher in the 200 individual medley after finishing third behind Omaha Creighton Prep seniors Will Raynor and Clarence Landon in 1:57.36. Cadotte posted a 1:56.77 in the prelims.
Neil Girmus, senior, Millard South: Girmus is the defending state champion in the 200 freestyle (1:44.09) and is the top returning finisher in the 100 breaststroke after finishing second to current Missouri State swimmer Isaac Springer in 58.29. Girmus also was a member of the Patriots' championship 200 medley relay team.
Bob Glover, senior, Millard South: The Indiana recruit battled back from an illness that sidelined him much of last season to finish second in both the 100 butterfly (51.18) and 100 backstroke (49.92). That 100 back time (49.92) moved Glover to No. 2 on The World-Herald's all-time Top 10 list behind 2012 champion Raynor's 49.43. Raynor is a freshman at Michigan.
Jack Turman, senior, Papillion-La Vista/Papio South: Turman is the defending state champion in the 500 freestyle in 4:42.79. He also finished third in the 200 freestyle in 1:44.85, less than a second behind Girmus and just 0.08 seconds behind runner-up Alexander Kuszak of Lincoln East, who is a junior this season.
