HAMPTON – The Hampton Hawks tried to hang with McCool Junction in Crossroads Conference basketball action on Saturday night, but the Mustangs used their experience and leadership.
McCool Junction led 18-8 at the end of the first quarter and eventually pulled away for a 60-30 win that moved their record to 2-0. The Hawks dropped to 0-2.
Hampton tried to keep things close early behind six first quarter points from Tristan Boyce, but the Mustangs’ balance off-set Boyce’s effort and they able to extend their lead to double digits.
It was pretty much the same in the second quarter as the Mustangs went on a 15-7 run and opened a comfortable 33-15 lead at the end of the first two quarters.
The second half saw the Mustangs out-score the hosts 27-15 to stay unbeaten on the year.
