Two of my favorite things have come together countless times in the name of inspiring Christmas joy: Muppets and Christmas.
Between Christmas specials, a Christmas album with John Denver and a new song with Cee Lo, they've churned out more holiday music than Neil Diamond, which is saying something.
I went through my extensive catalog of Muppet music (yes, seriously) to find my favorite holiday
Muppet songs in case your ideal Christmas is a fuzzy, funny, silly one, like
“One More Sleep 'til Christmas” sung by Kermit — There's nothing like Christmas Eve and the anticipation of what's to come the next day.
When Kermit (as Bob Cratchet) sings this in “A Muppet Christmas Carol,” we all feel what he feels.
“The Christmas Party Sing-Along” sung by Rowlf — This goofy, original tune from The Muppets' “A Green and Red Christmas” is sung by Rowlf the dog and references all kinds of classic tunes such as “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “White Christmas” and tons of others. And, as the title suggests, it's pretty good to sing along with.
“It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” sung by Gonzo & Rizzo — This classic tune gets new life from the pair of fuzzy Muppets who let off a few jokes while they sing.
“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” sung by Kermit — The frog sings a very nice, stripped-down version of the tune.
“Run, Run Rudolph” sung by Dr. Teeth & the Electric Mayhem — Who better to kick off a rollicking Christmas tune than the Muppets' resident rock band? Nobody, that's who.
“Pass It On” sung the Fraggles — During “A Muppet Family Christmas,” we discover that the Fraggles live under the home of Fozzie's mother, Emily Bear. And the Fraggles teach the meaning of Christmas to Kermit and his nephew, Robin.
“Sleigh Ride” sung by Fozzie and the Snowman — One of the best scenes from “A Muppet Family Christmas” special includes Fozzie Bear and a snowman Muppet trading verses and jokes (and even making up their own Muppet-centric lyrics). Unfortunately, it was cut from home video releases of the special.
“Twelve Days of Christmas” sung by John Denver & the Muppets — Probably the best-known of all Muppet Christmas songs features some funny moments, especially Bunsen doing his “mi mi mi mi mi mi mi” schtick through the “nine ladies dancing” verse.
“All I Need is Love” sung by Cee Lo Green and the Muppets — The pop singer and the Muppets team up in this brand new track about the only thing Cee Lo needs for Christmas. The song's chorus incorporates the famous Muppet song, “Mahna Mahna,” and one verse features Cee Lo singing with Kermit, Fozzie and other Muppets. (I highly recommend watching the video, which inludes a bunch of Muppet cameos and hijinks as well as Muppet Cee Lo.)
“I Wish I Could Be Santa Claus” sung by the Muppets — From “A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa,” Gonzo and Fozzie team up to sing a soft tune about spreading joy on Christmas.
“It Feels Like Christmas” sung by the Ghost of Christmas Present — It's impossible not to feel jolly while the ever-smiling, laughing Ghost of Christmas Present teaches Scrooge (played by Michael Caine) about how wonderful Christmas can be.
