Nebraska wins final two matches to take dual

LINCOLN — The Nebraska and Arizona State wrestling teams fought back and forth Saturday night.

The final two matches ended up securing the victory for the No. 9 Huskers as they defeated the Sun Devils 18-12 in front of 778 at the NU Coliseum.

With the final score in doubt, Austin Wilson edged Parker Madl 2-0 at 165 pounds and Robert Kokesh got an 8-3 decision victory over ASU’s Blake Stauffer at 174. The sophomore Kokesh improved to 13-1 on the season.

Senior 184-pounder Josh Ihnen started off the night with a 6-2 decision over Kevin Radford. The match was between ranked opponents with Ihnen standing at No. 6 and Radford No. 20.

The Sun Devils responded to the early loss with three consecutive wins in the 197, heavyweight and 125-pound classifications.

Down 9-3, the Huskers bounced back with three wins of their own. Shawn Nagel won a 133 pounds and Ridge Kiley earned the first takedown of the night on his way to a 9-3 decision victory over Matt Kraus in the sixth match of the night.

Jake Sueflohn, the No. 10-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds, earned his 12th win of the season with a 7-1 decision over Nathan Hoffer.

Codey Combs knotted things up at 12 for Arizona State with a 1-0 win over NU’s Ross Grande before Wilson and Kokesh sealed the match with their victories.
