OSCEOLA - The East Butler Tigers rolled up 224 points on Saturday and doubled up the second-place Fillmore Central Panthers, who finished with 112 points at the Osceola Wrestling Invite.
The Tigers won five individual championships while the Panthers managed just one bracket champion.
There were 21 teams represented on Saturday including nine JV teams.
Also competing were the Cross County/ Osceola Cougars. Their 95 points tied them with Cedar Valley for fourth and fifth place. The Cougars crowned one weight bracket champion.
In the 195-pound bracket, Fillmore Central’s Trevor Adams went 4-0 on the day and took the championship. In his opening match Adams defeated Chase Doncheske of Palmer 11-1, followed that up with a pin of Tristan Lucas of Harvard in 1:11, then pinned Dan Lundstedt of Southern in 39 seconds and punched his championship ticket with a pin of Jaden Meyer of Fullerton in 1:24.
At 120, Panther Davis Jacobsen posted a 4-1 record and fell just short of the title when he lost the championship match to Jesse Lammers of Cedar Valley by pin. On his way to the finals, Jacobsen defeated Irvan Audelo of Columbus JV with a pin in 1:10, took just 59 seconds to pin Hunter Gulp of Fullerton and defeated Aaron Oquist of Cross County/ Osceola 9-2.
Cole Curtis went 1-1 at 220 and took second. The Panther senior opened with a pin of East Butler’s Logan Wade in 43 seconds, then after a bye was defeated by Dallas Doupnik of Harvard by pin.
In the heavyweight division, the Panthers had Zach Ekeler take second, Jarrod Hinrichs of Fillmore Central JV take third and fellow JV Jake Davenport took fifth.
In his first match Ekeler, a senior, defeated Eliseo Ruiz of Dorchester in 1:15, won by default over Hinrichs in his second scheduled match, pinned Aaron Gerdes of Southern JV in 50 seconds, won over Jake Davenport by default, and lost to eventual champion Nathan Bazata of Howells/Dodge 5-2 in what proved to be the championship match.
The only other top four finisher at the Invite for the Panthers was Cole Jividen with a fourth at 106.
The Cross County/Osceola Cougars crowned Grant Dawson bracket champion at 160 as he went 4-0 on the day. The morning started off with a bye, then Dawson, a senior, defeated Fabian Aguirre of Columbus JV by pin in 22 seconds and pinned Chris Nelson of Dorchester in 1:15.
In the semifinals Dawson pinned Kyle Schulz of Columbus in 1:47 and in the final took just 1:17 to put East Butler’s Austin Tejral’s shoulders to the mat for his fourth win.
At 138 pounds, Cross County/ Osceola’s Casey Walkup went 4-1 to take second place in the weight class. In his first match, Walkup pinned Robby Purtlebaugh in 37 seconds, defeated David Smaus of East Butler 12-2, pinned teammate Logan Plock of Cross County/ Osceola JV in 25 seconds, and pinned Riley Reeder of Columbus in 3:32.
His only loss came to eventual bracket champion Alex Stern of Dorchester by pin at 3:34.
At 145, Erik Oquist of the Cougars went 4-0 in his bracket with wins over Tyler Nelson of Columbus (1:59), Javden Friend of Fullerton JV (:53), Austan Pataki of Columbus JV (1:10) and Jordan Wright of East Butler 14-2.
In the final he lost to Garrett Sonderup of Fullerton 11-1.
At 120 pounds Aaron Oquist took fourth and at 113 pounds Stephon Friesen was fourth.
The Cross County/ Osceola Cougars return to action next Saturday as they travel north to the Elgin Public/ Pope John invite. Fillmore Central will head to the Cambridge invite that same day.
