An Omaha police squad car collided with a FedEx Monday near 16th and Leavenworth Streets.
Police said the driver of the van was headed east on Leavenworth just after 3:30 p.m. Police said he ran a red light and was struck by the squad car, which was headed south on 16th Street. The impact caused the van to topple over onto its side.
The driver of the van, Andrew J. Hamers, 23, was uninjured.
Officer Jeff Kilgore, an 8-year veteran of the force, was taken by ambulance to the Nebraska Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Police said he was burned by his car's air bag when it deployed.
