The single mother was on top of things. When her hours were being reduced at work, she switched jobs — and also found a second job. Being responsible for three children, she didn't want to fall behind on bills. But she hadn't counted on a severe ankle sprain that would keep her away from both jobs. When she was able to pay only part of her monthly rent, Goodfellows paid the balance. Soon she was back at work and once again on top of the family's expenses.
The World-Herald's charity helps year-round with emergency situations such as this, extending a hand to help keep people on their feet financially. Goodfellows also provides clothing to schoolchildren and, at Christmastime, grocery vouchers for needy families.
Goodfellows provides assistance to thousands of families each year. It has raised and distributed nearly $10 million since 1945. With The World-Herald paying all administrative costs, every dollar donated to Goodfellows goes directly to disadvantaged families – helping them with one-time urgent needs, providing holiday meals and providing funds for clothing, shoes and coats.
