YORK – The Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Eagles took the lead in the first quarter and never allowed the No. 1 seed High Plains Storm boys to get it back.
High Plains, the No. 7 team in Class D-1, struggled to find its offensive flow and shooting touch the entire game and BDS took advantage with a 56-47 win in the semifinals of the Crossroads Conference Tournament at the York City Auditorium on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles, the No. 4 seed and the No.8 rated team in Class D-1, didn't allow the Storm to get any closer than six points in the final eight minutes on their way to the CRC title game tonight at 7:30 p.m.
High Plains (12-3) hurt its own comeback chances shooting just 6-19 in the fourth quarter and finished 20-54 from the floor, only 11-30 in the second half.
Offensively for the High Plains boys Logan Fleming scored 20 of his 18 points over the first three quarters, while Dylan Shenk was the only other offensive threat with 16.
BDS took care of business at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter as they were 12-15 and 21-27 in the game.
The Eagles led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and 26-19 at the half.
High Plains had trimmed the BDS lead to 22-19 late in the second quarter, but allowed the Eagles to close the half on a 4-0 run.
In the third the Eagles went up 38-26, but the Storm kept the Eagles in sight with a 5-0 run to end the third eight minutes and trailed 38-31.
HP tried to make a comeback and pulled to within 43-37 with 2:35 to play, but the Eagles were magic at the freebie stripe and kept the Storm from advancing to their second final in two years.
Leading BDS in scoring was Ryan Tegtmeier with 18 while Grant Norder was charted with 14.
BDS was 17-41 from the field and that included 1-4 from 3-point range. High Plains had a miserable night from 3-point land as they were just 1-11 in the game.
High Plains was 6-13 at the free throw line.
The Storm will play in the consolation final at 4:30 p.m. today.
