LAFAYETTE, Colo. — The Scottsbluff wrestling team had a solid showing this weekend, finishing in 12th place out of 35 teams at the tough Top of the Rockies Tournament in Lafayette, Colo.
Scottsbluff coach James Miller said his team benefited greatly by competing in the Friday and Saturday tournament in Colorado.
“It was great to see our guys get challenged,” Miller said. “Everybody had matches where they had to work in different situations.”
Colton Adams stayed undefeated on the season and was the lone individual champion for the Bearcats. He even earned the Outstanding Wrestler Award at 132 pounds. Adams decisioned Cheyenne Central’s Bryce Meredity, 5-2, to win the title.
Scottsbluff put four other wrestlers on the podium on Saturday, with Cruz DelaCruz placing sixth at 113; Keegan Hessler picking up fifth at 120; Sabian Harsh finishing sixth at 152; and Andrew Aratani notching fourth place at 285.
Miller said the Top of the Rockies Tournament was a great opportunity for his wrestlers to see other styles of wrestling.
“All those guys saw great kids and got pushed this weekend, so it gives us a great gauge of where we’re really at and gives us some things to work on right before districts.” Miller added. “So, it was good for the guys to see that there are still things to work on.”
Scottsbluff will next be in action when it hosts the GNAC Tournament on Saturday at Scottsbluff High School.
