Penn State rolls past Huskers

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Jake Sueflohn and Robert Kokesh got wins over wrestlers ranked in the top three nationally, but those were Nebraska’s only victories Sunday afternoon as No. 1-ranked Penn State earned a 33-9 dual win over the Huskers.

Sueflohn, ranked 12th at 149 pounds, rallied from an early 4-0 deficit by recording a third-period pin against third-ranked Andrew Alton. It was Alton’s first loss of the season.

Kokesh, ranked fourth nationally, stretched his winning streak to 21 matches as he decisioned third-ranked Matt Brown 10-7. Kokesh trailed 3-0 in the second period, but he rallied to take a 5-3 lead after two periods and led 9-4 midway through the final period.

In other matches pitting top 10 wrestlers, Penn State’s Dylan Alton, ranked sixth, got a takedown with 20 seconds left in his 157-pound match with fourth-ranked James Green to earn a 3-1 win. And at 184, top-ranked and unbeaten Ed Ruth of Penn State rolled to an 18-3 technical fall win over No. 8 Josh Ihnen.

Nebraska, which is 9-4 in duals this season, returns to action Friday against Michigan State in its final home dual this season.
