SCOTTSBLUFF — The mother of a 2-year-old who died in 2008 has surrendered to local police, her attorneys said Friday.
Charyse Geurts wants the person responsible for the death of her daughter, Juliette, prosecuted and punished, her lawyers said.
"She has attempted to help the police in investigating and prosecuting the person who killed Juliette," the Island & Huff law firm in Gering said in a press release. Guerts "continues to maintain her innocence in the death of Juliette."
Juliette Geurts of Gering died July 11, 2008, of blunt force trauma to her head and abdomen. Four years after the girl's death, no one had been charged. Family members led an effort to petition for a grand jury investigation.
Geurts and Dustin Chauncey were indicted last week.
