WACO — The McCool Mustang boys broke fast from the starting gate and never gave Nebraska Lutheran a chance Friday in hoops at Waco.
The Mustangs went up 21-3 at the end of the first period and were into their bench early in the second. The Knights of Lutheran were game but out-gunned and fell by a final score of 58-38.
The second period was much closer at 12-10 Mustangs, but on this night the outcome was never in doubt.
Scoring a team-high eight points each for Lutheran were Nathan Ewart and Schuyler Hemphill. Coleman Cogswell's 14 for McCool paced all scorers and Alex Preslicka added 10.
The Knights hit 10 field goals of which four were from three range. They were 14-31 at the line. McCool's bottom line was 22 2-pointers, two threes and 8-15 free throws.
The Mustangs got eight points from Jared Morner, six each from Brett Swantek and Chance Chrisman, and four from Terry Salyer. Brandon Scott and Gabe Fisher scored three each and at two apiece were A.J. Hamm and Jac Bailey.
Tyler Diede scored six for Lutheran, which got four from Sam Green and three each from Ben Pohlman, Grant Freese and Jacob Noffke.
Wesley Jardim and Ryan Henning added two and one to the Knights' total.
