Omaha Corporal, U.S. Marines
Served from April 1968 to '70 with 13th Marines in Quang Nam province.
Memory (of Feb. 23, 1969): “We were under attack by enemy sappers and rockets in the early morning hours. The battle lasted over 40 minutes, and we had four Marines killed and 23 wounded with four structures destroyed.
“During the battle, the battery fired over 389 rounds, many at point-blank range, and engaged in hand-to-hand combat. After sending the enemy to retreat, we counted the enemy killed and one (North Vietnamese Army) soldier captured.”
