TEMPE, Ariz. — For the second day in a row, Creighton split a pair of games at the Kajikawa Classic.
The Jays were handled by Florida 13-3 in the first game and bounced back against Oregon State winning 5-3.
Pitchers Becca Changstrom and Brittany Telecky were unable to keep runs from crossing the plate against the Gators. They combined to give up seven earned runs.
The Creighton defense didn’t help matters, committing four errors that led to six unearned runs.
Catcher Amy Baker and pinch hitter Sammy Snygg each hit homers for the Jays but Florida pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts.
Against Oregon State, fortunes changed for the CU pitchers. The defense had no errors as Brittany Telecky picked up the win.
The Jays scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. They would add another in the sixth and win by a two-run margin.
Baker again had a homer and finished with three RBI to lead Creighton.
The Jays face Stephen F. Austin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday to wrap up their time in Tempe.
