Chef leaves Zin Room; Midtown dining specials



Chef leaves Zin Room

Chef Ryan Gish has left the Zin Room.

The restaurant's manager said the former chef and owner sold his interests in the business and the restaurant is searching for a new executive chef. He said no menu changes are planned.

The Zin Room opened in 2011 on the first floor of the Hotel Deco, 316 S. 15th St.

Take your sweetie to Block 16

Block 16 is celebrating Valentine's Day with a Cocktail Party Extravaganza.

The restaurant will open at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday for cocktails, and then food and craft drinks will be served from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The evening will include a champagne toast.

The Localmotive Food Truck will be parked outside and will serve a special menu. The event will not be a formal seating, though reservations are required and it's limited to 40 people.

The dinner is $55 per person and includes one drink and the champagne toast. For more information or to make a reservation, call 402-342-1220.

Treats at Lithuanian Bakery

The Lithuanian Bakery will celebrate the Polish holiday Paczki Day next week with fresh cherry ponckos, the Lithuanian version of paczki. The treats are deep-fried pieces of dough shaped into a flattened circle and filled with a sweet filling. They are usually covered with powdered sugar, icing, or bits of dried orange zest.

The sweets will be on sale next Tuesday only. The bakery is at 5217 S. 33rd Ave.

Specials at Midtown eateries

February is Restaurant Month in Midtown Crossing, and a number of restaurants are participating in the event with special menus and pricing.

A portion of each bill will support the Heartland Walk for Warmth and Run for Fun and benefit those struggling to heat their homes this winter. For more information, visit midtowncrossing.com/events.

Deals and special menus include:

—Black Oak Grill is serving a three-course traditional American dinner for $19 a person. It features dishes such as rosemary grilled chicken, the Black Oak Salad and the Kahlua Ding Dong dessert. For more information or to reserve a spot, call 402-341-0622.

—Cantina Laredo will serve a three-course meal for $24 a person; dishes include carnitas tacos, chile rellenos and Mexican apple pie.

—Cold Stone Creamery and Rocky Mountain Chocolate will accept $1 donations for the Heartland Walk for Warmth. For each donation, you will receive a $1 off coupon for your next visit.

—Crave will serve a number of seasonal specials for lunch and dinner, as well as wine as part of the “Crave Cares” menu.

—Lenny's Sub Shop will be accepting $1 donations to the Heartland Walk for Warmth.

—Marcus Midtown Cinema will have a special CineDine Restaurant Month menu that includes dishes such as oysters Rockefeller, a salmon club sandwich and New York style cheesecake.

—Saints Pub and Patio will serve a special each week of February, including dishes such as duck meatloaf, baked ziti and meatballs, a Thanksgiving sandwich and homemade lasagna.

—Also participating are Brix, Grey Plume, Pana 88 and Ingredient.

All-chocolate event at Brix

This Saturday, Brix is celebrating all things chocolate with its annual sampling event.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at both locations of the shop, they will have free samples of a number of wines, beers and liquors, including Red Decadence Chocolate Red Wine; Chocolate Lover's Wine from the Chocolate Shop; Trader Vic's Chocolate Liqueur and White Chocolate Liqueur; Baileys Mint Chocolate Liqueur; Godiva Chocolate Liqueur and White Chocolate Liqueur; Crave Chocolate Mint Liqueur, Chocolate Cherry Liqueur and Chocolate Chili Liqueur; Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur in a chocolate cordial cup; mini cocktails made with Stoli Chocolat Kokonut Flavored Vodka and Stoli Chocolat Razberi Flavored Vodka; 360 Double Chocolate Flavored Vodka; Patron XO Café Dark Cocoa blended with RumChata; Rhinelander Chocolate Bunny beer; Rogue Chocolate Stout; Young's Double Chocolate Stout; and Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout.

Brix has locations in Village Pointe and Midtown Crossing.
