LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A record-breaking performance from Taylor Edwards powered the Nebraska softball team to a 13-4, five-inning victory over Illinois-Chicago on Saturday.
Edwards hit two grand slams to set a school record with eight RBIs. Edwards had never hit a grand slam or had a multi-homer game entering Saturday. Her first slam broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the second inning, while her second ended the game.
Edwards' twin sister, Tatum Edwards, added a solo shot for her third homer of the season, and Brooke Thomason also had a solo homer for the Huskers (3-0).
Tatum Edwards also picked up the victory, improving to 2-0.
Nebraska wraps up its season-opening weekend with games Sunday against Illinois-Chicago and New Mexico.
