ALLIANCE — The Chadron girls basketball team repeated as Class C-1, Sub-district 12 Tournament champions with a 57-29 win over Kimball in the title game on Thursday night in Alliance.
Chadron, rated No. 1 in Class C-1 by the Omaha World-Herald, now advances to the Class C-1, District 6 final against Gothenburg next Friday. Times and places of the district finals will be announced today.
The Cardinals took control over Kimball in the early stages of their contest on Thursday night. Chadron raced out to a 14-2 lead after one quarter and held a 28-13 advantage at halftime.
Defensively, Chadron limited the Longhorns to single digits in scoring in both quarters of the second half to pull away.
“The girls came out focused tonight,” Chadron coach Curt Holmquist said. “The defense was tremendous and our transition game was phenomenal. I just thought we played really well in about every facet of the game.”
Junior Bailea Kerr busted out with a season-high 19 points to lead the Cardinals in scoring. The six-footer also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Kerr also finished the game with five steals and three assists.
Two other Cardinals scored in double figures. Peyton Hinn tallied 11 points to go with eight rebounds, five steals and five assists. Briley Hannaford poured in 10 points. Hinn, Hannaford, and Kerr all dropped in a 3-pointer.
Ashlyn Eitemiller grabbed seven rebounds for Chadron. She also added four steals and two assists. Alia Brennan dished out three assists.
Kimball was led in scoring by Shelby Vogel with 10 points. Darbi Klinkhammer added eight points with a pair of 3-pointers.
Kimball converted 7 of its 12 free throws, while Chadron was 4 of 11.
The Longhorns concluded their season with a record of 14-6.
Chadron improved to 21-2 entering next week's district final.

SIDNEY — Rylee Hanks poured in 30 points and went 10 of 14 from the free-throw line to lead the Crawford girls basketball team to a 60-44 win over Creek Valley in the championship of the Class D-1, Sub-district 12 Tournament on Thursday at Sidney High School.
Jerry Straber and Summer Mueller collected 17 points apiece to pace the Storm. Additionally, Straber tallied a pair of 3-pointers in the second half.
Kaitlin Rudloff chipped in 13 points for the Rams, going 3 of 6 from the foul stripe. Haley Hanks hit two 3-pointers for six points, while Lacie Lietka also finished with six.
Crawford (17-5) advances to the Class D-2, District 6 final against Sutherland next Friday.
