DENTON, Texas — UNO split a pair of games Saturday at the North Texas Lovelace Invitational, edging Oklahoma State 1-0 in eight innings before falling to Iowa 2-1.
Against Oklahoma State, Mavs pitcher Dana Elsasser took a perfect game into the seventh inning before allowing a single with one out. Elsasser got the next batter to hit into a double play.
Since the game was played with international tiebreaker rules, a runner was placed on second base with no outs in the eighth inning. After Elsasser retired the Oklahoma State side, Allie Mathewson delivered an RBI double to lift the Mavs.
UNO fell behind 2-0 after the first inning against Iowa, but rallied in the seventh inning.
The Mavs loaded the bases with one out, and Mathewson's RBI single cut the deficit to 2-1. But Lindsay Redding popped up and Campbell Ditto grounded out as the Mavs (8-1) suffered their first loss.
UNO closes play at the tournament against Dayton at 9 a.m. Sunday.
