Huskers rally, match best start in school history

Tucson, Ariz. — Nebraska overcame four errors and a stressful seventh inning to defeat Purdue 4-3 Sunday at the Hillenbrand Invitational.

The Huskers improved to 9-1, matching the best 10-game start in school history.

Trailing 3-0, senior Brooke Thomason hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning for NU. Freshman Alicia Armstrong then tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth, before Hailey Decker brought home the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

In the seventh, the Boilermakers (5-5) loaded the bases with one out on an error, an infield single and a hit batter. But junior Tatum Edwards (6-1) escaped the jam with a forceout at the plate for the second out and got a groundout back to her for the final out.

The Huskers continues tournament play next weekend with five games in three days at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif., beginning Friday.
