NU loses to No. 10 Cornell in regional final of Duals

ITHACA, N.Y. — Nebraska was knocked out of the NWCA National Duals, falling to host Cornell 19-17 in Sunday’s regional final.

No. 10 Cornell advanced to the championship round next weekend in Minneapolis. The next event for the No. 13 Huskers is the Big Ten championships March 9 and 10.

Cornell never trailed, as it won the first three matches to take a 10-0 lead. NU won three of the next four to make it 16-11. Then Cornell got a big win at 184 pounds as Steve Bosak, ranked fourth nationally, earned a 3-0 decision over No. 8 Josh Ihnen.

Caleb Kolb and Spencer Johnson won decisions in the final two matches, but that left the Huskers two points short.

Earlier in the day, NU advanced to the regional final by beating 11th-ranked Virginia 28-8. The Cavaliers, who have seven ranked wrestlers, won the first two matches before the Huskers won the last eight.

Five Huskers — Kolb, Johnson, Jake Sueflohn, James Green and Robert Kokesh — went 2-0 on the day.
