Ducks beat NU at Mary Nutter Classic

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. — Sloppy play and errors doomed Nebraska Saturday.

The Huskers were unable to overcome their own errors and the Oregon bats, falling to the No. 9 Ducks 11-2 in six innings in their third game of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Nebraska now has three losses on the season, all coming to ranked opponents.

With the Huskers down 2-0 due to a Kailee Cuico homer in the top of the first, NU again struggled in the second inning. Oregon scored four runs in the inning with the help of two Husker errors. A hit batter, a walk and an infield bunt single where no one covered first loaded the bases with no outs. The next batter was offered a wild throw which scored a runner from third. Later in the inning a throwing error on a two-run single scored another runner as the Ducks took an early 6-0 lead.

Nebraska pitcher Tatum Edwards walked the first three batters of the fourth inning before a bloop single and another wild throw would score runners to make it 8-0.

A two-run homer by senior Brooke Thomason was the lone bright spot for the Huskers as they were held to two hits.

Nebraska faces No. 23 Florida State at 11 a.m. and No. 8 California on Sunday.
