FARGO, N.D. — The University of Nebraska at Omaha women’s basketball team fell just shy of defeating North Dakota State Saturday.
Paige Frauendorfer’s 12-foot baseline jumper at the buzzer rimmed out as the Bison secured a 63-62 victory.
The Mavs nearly pulled off an improbable victory in the final seconds. Carolyn Blair-Mobley, who led UNO with 20 points, scored a layup with 13 seconds left to pull the Mavs within two. North Dakota State inbounded the ball and took a timeout due to UNO pressure. The Bison didn’t have any timeouts remaining and were assessed a technical foul. The Mavs were to get two free throws and possession of the ball.
Frauendorfer missed the first foul shout but cashed the second one to make the score 63-62. She would go on to take the final shot on the nine-second final possession.
Frauendorfer finished with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Ericka House added 13 points, and Taijhe Kelly had 11 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots. Blair-Mobley chipped in seven rebounds to her team-high point total.
Senior and Lincoln, Neb., native Katie Birkel led the Bison with 23 points. The preseason All-Summit League guard played the entire 40 minutes and made five 3-pointers.
