JACKSON, Miss. — The University of Nebraska at Omaha swept Evansville on Sunday, 9-1 in six innings and 3-2, to win the Jackson State tournament by going 4-0 on the weekend.
The Mavericks (13-1) have won five in a row and have taken two tournament titles in three events this month.
In the first game, UNO used a five-run fourth inning as Sydney Hames, Allie Mathewson and Lindsay Redding doubled, Campbell Ditto tripled and Amber Lutmer homered. Dana Elsasser (8-1) picked up the win in the opener and came on in the seventh to close the second game.
Lutmer’s two-run homer and Hames’ sacrifice fly gave UNO a 3-0 lead in the nightcap as Ashton Hughes carried a shutout through 623. Elsasser entered in relief, and walked a batter to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh. Kendall Kautz then hit a two-run single to make it 3-2 with runners on first and second. Elsasser then got Kacey Rogers to popup to end the game.
UNO will head to Fort Collins, Colo., for five games at the Colorado State Classic, a tournament that starts Friday.
