A 12-year-old girl was arrested after admitting to police that she used a cell phone camera to record a female physical education teacher taking a shower.
According to a report filed by the Omaha Police Department, the incident occurred Feb. 13 in the girls locker room at Nathan Hale Middle School, 6143 Whitmore St. Police spoke with a girl at the school who said she went into the shower area of the locker room about 10:20 a.m. and used her phone to record the teacher.
The girl cooperated with police and volunteered her assistance in retrieving the video. The teacher was shown the video and confirmed that she was the victim.
The girl was arrested on suspicion of intrusion of privacy and released into the custody of her mother. The cellphone was booked into police property.
David Patton, a spokesman for Omaha Public Schools, said he didn't know what, if any, punishment the girl faced at school. Nathan Hale administrators would decide that, he said.
Under the OPS code of conduct, a first offense of unauthorized use of a camera or video device could be punished by one to three days in the student success center, Saturday school or a suspension.
“The penalty generally depends on the severity of the incident,” Patton said. “Because law enforcement is engaged in this case, we would often follow the lead of authorities.”
