The Nebraska Beef Council's third annual statewide Best Burger Contest starts today.
Nebraskans can nominate their favorite burger in the state today through March 31 by visiting www.nebeef.org and completing the online form.
A new addition to the contest this year will be the Consumer's Choice award, which will be given to the restaurant that gets the most overall electronic votes.
A panel of judges will evaluate the top five nominated burgers and choose the state's best. Past grand prize winners can win the Consumer's Choice award, but they cannot win the grand prize award again. The new winner will be announced at the end of April.
Last year the top prize went to Stella's Bar and Grill in Bellevue for its cheeseburger. The first winner was the burger at the Cellar Bar and Grill in Kearney.
The World-Herald picked our favorite burger as part of our Food Prowl series last year. The contest ended in a tie between Dinker's Bar and Grill and Block 16. This summer we'll do another burger prowl for high-end, gourmet burgers. What's your favorite high-end burger?
