Jeff Gordman, president and chief executive of Gordmans, doffs his hard hat after a ceremonial groundbreaking Friday afternoon at Aksarben Village.
Gordman, Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle, Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce president David Brown and more than 200 Gordmans employees attended the event, which kicked off the construction of a $28 million, roughly 100,000-square-foot building that will become the new headquarters for Gordmans when complete in March 2014. Kiewit is the general contractor.
Before the groundbreaking, visitors gathered in the lounge at the Aksarben Cinema.
Brown told those gathered, "It's important for cities like us to get headquarters. This is where the energy is. This is where the philanthropy is. Cities are known by the companies they keep."
