SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Sioux City’s Jake Montgomery and Christian Lampasso each scored two goals and the Omaha Lancers couldn’t provide answers, falling 6-2 in front of 3,792 at Tyson Events Center.
Omaha’s loss and Lincoln’s 3-2 victory in Fargo dropped the Lancers to fifth place in the USHL’s Western Conference standings.
The loss was Omaha’s fifth in the last six games and third to the Musketeers over the last eight days.
Sioux City scored just less than a minute into the game when Montgomery scored on a two-on-one break for his 11th goal of the season. Trevor Olson picked up the secondary assist. The Lancers are 9-15 when giving up the first goal.
Olson picked up a goal of his own later in the first period, hitting a rebound past Omaha goaltender Alex Lyon. The goal was just the second power-play goal surrendered by the Lancers over the past 13 games.
Omaha evened the score with its first two goals in the second period.
Matt Gaudreau got his sixth goal of the season at the 4:50 mark and Drew Melanson redirected a Ben Ostlie pass for his 11th goal of the season just eight minutes later.
From that point on Musketeers scored four unanswered goals and picked up their seventh win over the past 11 games.
Sioux City’s Connor Girard earned the victory in goal with 32 saves on 34 shots.
The Lancers hit the road to face Tri-City at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
