Omaha is world's No. 2 up-and-coming music city
By Kevin Coffey
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Omaha is one of the world's most up-and-coming cities for music, according to one of MTV's many music websites.

Omaha ranked No. 2 on MTV Iggy's list, alongside such cities as Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Lagos, Nigeria; Santiago, Chile; Athens, Greece; and Barcelona, Spain.

The article cites Omaha's jazz tradition that stretches back to the 1920s, and it goes on to cite the current presence of Saddle Creek Records. The article says the choice of Omaha "seems random" and adds the Omaha sound mixes "the college radio lover's alt rock" with "country twang."

MTV's Iggy site focuses on world music and Omaha is the only U.S. city mentioned in the list.
