CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Nebraska’s Hayley Thramer and Amber Rolfzen finished third Saturday in the gold division of the USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge pairs tournament.
Thramer and Rolfzen began by beating Florida State’s Aurora Davis and Fatma Yildirim 22-20, 17-21, 15-13 in round two. Then they faced teammates Kelsey Robinson and Alexa Strange, who were defeated by Kim Hill and Lilla Fredrick of Pepperdine 21-19, 14-21, 17-15, in the gold contender round three.
Thramer and Rolfzen beat their fellow Huskers 21-17, 21-17 to move on to the gold semifinals, where they wrapped up a third-place finish by losing to Florida State’s Marija Milosavljevic and Jace Pardon 21-10, 21-17.
In other action in the silver bracket for ninth-ranked Nebraska, Meghan Haggerty and Sheridan Zarda were defeated 21-14, 21-5 by Pepperdine’s Kellie Woolever and Kelley Larsen. Kristina and Stephanie Pelliteri of Florida State beat Morgan Broekhuis and Kadie Rolfzen 21-17, 21-17 while Kelsey Fien and Alicia Ostrander fell to Victoria Adelheim and Jazmine Orozco of Pepperdine 22-20, 21-12.
The Huskers continue play Sunday, facing Grand Canyon in team competition at 11 a.m. at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center.
