What's new: The Omaha City Council voted Tuesday to increase the number of available fireworks sales permits in the city from 35 to 50.
The details: The deadline for applications has passed, so additional permits will be given to applicants who have already submitted the required paperwork.
What we already knew: Omaha received 85 applications to sell fireworks. Omaha has allowed fireworks only in the past two years. The city previously based permit decisions on a point system, but that would change. Permits would be given out based on what the applicant will do to better the city.
