Millard North's girls track and field team was already antsy on Monday for Wednesday's Omaha Bryan Invitational.
“In the sleet and rain, we had to hold them back at practice,” coach Mindy Reed said.
Her team nearly doubled the score on runner-up Omaha Burke at Bryan Stadium, winning the nine-team girls meet 212-113 over the Bulldogs.
Omaha Westside's boys secured their 173-168 win over runner-up Omaha North by beating the Vikings in the last event for the six-team field, the 1,600 relay.
It was the first time Bryan hosted a varsity track meet since 1992. The Bears took over Omaha South's spot on the schedule.
Millard North won 11 of the 17 girls events. Hanna Peterson swept the hurdles and ran on the winning 1,600 relay for a three-gold day.
Peterson's teammates on the relay each won an individual event. Elizabeth Jones took the 200 title, Cami Brenner the 400 and Emily Haase the triple jump.
“We've tried to work hard and push through the weather,'' Haase said.
The Mustangs' Devin Grier won the 800 and also ran on the winning 3,200 relay. Maddie Cloonan was the 3,200 champion, Laurel Mertz won the discus and Lexi Barrett took first in the pole vault.
Reed said she's pleased with the early progress for a “very young” team. Millard North won the Nebraska Wesleyan indoor meet, then didn't compete last weekend after the Mustangs' relays meet was canceled.
Tom Young swept the throws for Westside. Other Warrior champions were Craig Timmons in the 200, Stuart Willett in the 800, Andrew McVea in the 3,200 and Njali Kowa in the long jump. The Warriors also won the 400 and 1,600 relays.
All-Nebraska sophomore running back Calvin Strong of North won the 300 intermediate hurdles and took second in the 110 highs.
