Before his “Rebel Soul” tour kicked off, Kid Rock encouraged fans not to give away details and spoil the shows for each other.
The shows will be that new, refreshing and surprising for longtime Kid Rock fans, he said.
Rock's shows are expected to include a lot of his new album, “Rebel Soul,” which Rolling Stone said “seeks the grooves and reach of classic soul — with a Detroit bull-god spin, of course.”
Rock said he wanted “Rebel Soul” to get back to one of his classic themes: Having fun.
“I just want to get back and make a fun Kid Rock record. Whatever it feels like that day in the studio, write those songs, whether they're hip-hop or rock and roll or country, just have fun with it,” he told MTV.
The Southern rock-style “Let's Ride” is the album's lead single, and it will make you want to put the top down on your Camaro and go for a long drive (even if the lyrics are about soldiers going to war).
“We wanted to keep it very truthful, but heavy and hard, and hopefully it's something that will help them get psyched up when they have to do their job,” he said to MTV. “I was almost thinking of maybe what a commander would say to the group as they have to go out and go into one of these situations. I tried to write what these guys would want to hear.”
